The Fund

The Virginia Yu Fund for Social & Economic Justice will provide monetary scholarships to graduating students of Lower East Side Preparatory High School  who plan to attend college and have demonstrated a commitment to social justice through community organizing, activism and/or volunteer/service and are in good academic standing at the time of the application.

Scholarship Guidelines & Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the scholarship:

  • Low income students, immigrant students, students of color, and LGBTQ students are encouraged to apply.

  • You don't necessarily need to have a high GPA or high academic record. We want to hear about your other activities and community involvement.

  • Student must be a senior during the academic year in which the student applies for the scholarship

  • Student must have a demonstrated significant contribution to advancing social and/or economic justice in her or his community.

  • Student must plan to attend an accredited college, university, trade school or an institution that is equivalent.

  • Student must be eligible to graduate upon the end of the academic year that the student applies for the scholarship.

  • Student must attend the Lower East Side Preparatory High School.

  • Student must be in fair academic standing at the time of application.
